Welcome to Spanish Sunday!

Hola (Hello).

Spanish Sunday is dedicated to all of you out there who want to learn Spanish.

I will teach you a new word/phrase(s) each Sunday (as the mood strikes).  And it won't be any of those "airport" phrases that you'd be learning through "Learn Spanish in Ten Days" CDs either.  It'll be honest to goodness, you can use it on a daily basis, Spanish.

So, for your first lesson we will begin with the standard greetings.

Buenos dias, buenas tardes, y buenas noches.

Buenos dias is good morning.  You can remember it from the word dia (day); bueno means good.  You start the DAY in the morning, so you say buenos dias.  Here's how you say it.

Ok, that was easy.  So, are you ready to continue?  The next one is pretty obvious, it's good afternoon; buenas tardes.

Again, buena means good and tarde is afternoon.  You can remember tarde by thinking that you don't want to be tardy coming back from lunch.  Buenas tardes means good afternoon.

And last but not least, good evening; buenas noches.  This one you can remember by the 'N' in noche; good night (buenas noches).  So, out of the three, it's the one that matches the first letter.

The key to learning any language is to practice.  So, play these videos over and over again until you feel comfortable with the pronunciations.  Then practice, practice, practice.  When you wake up in the morning greet everyone with 'buenos dias'!  If you're shy you can always just greet yourself in the mirror this way.  Do it all week long and in no time you'll recognize what it means.  If you remember, do the same for buenas tardes y buenas noches.

Tune in next Sunday for another "practical" lesson in Spanish.

I will take requests, if you really want to know something.  But, I reserve the right to ignore you if you're gross or annoying.

Hasta luego!! (Until next time)  Here's hoping I can keep it up...
