Cinco de Mayo aftermath
I'm not familiar with how/why Cinco de Mayo become a holiday celebrated in the US. But, it seems to me it's a holiday (as they all are) driven by commerce.
I mean think about it, everyone gets drunk at Mardi Gras right? That's in February. Then, the next time the food industry can foist alcohol on the American public with good reason is on the Fourth of July. That's a six month dry spell. So, Cinco de Mayo is right on the money!
Well, that's just my two cents on the issue.
Back to the matter at hand.
Previously we learned general greetings in Spanish, buenos dias, buenas tardes, y buenas noches.
Today, we're gonna take it to the next level.
Question: How are you? Como estas? or Como esta usted? (like she says below)
Usted is a formal way of say you. You use it as a respectful title to someone your senior or to someone you don't know.
Response: Muy bien - moo - e bi- ehn means very well.
Response: Muy mal - moo - e m-ahl means very badly.
Response: Asi asi - means so so.
Practice, practice!
Adios!
