Already at an advantage
We went to the local city carnival today. I took BG and Hubby stayed home with Buddy. It was actually great because he was in dire need of a nap. He would have been a mess in the heat and commotion. We also went with a friend who has two kids, a girl around BG's age and a little boy, older than Buddy.
They had a day pass for the rides so we purchased the armbands and spent the morning in lines for kiddie rides.
As we were herding the kids from ride to ride and taking their pictures before the rides started I noticed how calmly BG accepted everything. Sometimes BG got to ride with just the other little girl but other times all three ended up riding together with the little boy in the middle. I realized that amidst all the shuffling, BG never had an issue with the other two kids. She accepted having to share her seat with someone else's younger brother. She was just happy to be riding the ride!
I tell you what, I can't say that I remember anything, but I can't imagine that I was that compliant as a kid. I was an only child and I knew it! I remember wanting to have siblings but only to have kids to boss around, not to have to share with them.
I like that she's a tolerant child. I love that she understands that she's not the center of the universe.
We had a blast, we rode the ferris wheel, the flying swings, helicopters, trains, bears, and dragons. It was totally worth the day pass. At the end of the day, no one threw up and no one got heat stroke.
I call that a success. We got home and we both crashed! Of course she'll recover much faster than me.
