What's the point?
I can't stop thinking about it and it's making me nutz! At the fair over the weekend I saw a woman with her newborn baby. She was sitting on a step trying to calm down her screaming 2-3 week old infant. The little girl was clad in a summer infant outfit but she was hot! You could tell she was hot because you could see the stork-bite on the back of her neck from down the street! And the way she was wailing, you could tell she was miserable. But, there sat newborn baby's mom, clueless as ever, trying to calm down the poor baby and hopelessly wondering why she wouldn't take the bottle of milk!
So, I ask you, what is the point of taking a newborn to a rowdy, noisy, hot, fair?!?!
Clearly, mom was not getting anything out of it. And neither was that poor baby, except for maybe heat exhaustion and a horrible burn!
Newborn babies need sleep, tons of it (16-17 hours per day)! They are growing every millisecond of the day! That in itself is exhausting. Why throw confusion and chaos into the mix? And, speaking from experience, new mom's need sleep too.
There will be plenty of time to take the kids to the fair. When they are old enough to appreciate it, be my guest. But when your baby needs you to hold up his/her head, please, stay home!
If you must get out, go to the mall where there is AC and you can leave without much fuss. A quick trip to the grocery store or a visit with a friend can help too.
Newborn babies are still learning to regulate their body temperature. A day spent in the hot sun is not ideal. And, it is recommended that you DON'T apply any type of sunblock on a baby until after six month's of age. So, what's the point?
Children grow up amazingly fast. Before you know it, you'll be begging NOT to have to take the kids to the fair. Enjoy some quiet time at home with your sleeping infant while you still can. There are certainly days when I miss that time of peace and quiet.
