I'm Tired
I declare today "National I'm tired of being the grown-up day!"
I'm tired of being the grown-up.
I'm tired of having to make sure the kids are fed, dressed, and well rested.
I'm tired of taking care of the dog, the bills, and the house work.
I'm tired of having to go to work (even though I like my job).
I'm tired of all the "why" questions.
I'm tired of having to cook and weed the garden and pick-up after the kids.
I'm tired of being the one who has to cancel her "girl-friends day out" plans because the grass needs to be cut.
I want someone else to cook for a change.
Someone else to weed the garden.
Someone else to make sure the kids are well rested, fed, and dressed.
I want to go see "Sex and the City," "The Incredible Hulk," and "Hancock."
I want a back massage. Make that two!
I want a delicious breakfast, a tasty lunch, and a scrumptious dinner; made by someone else.
And I want someone else to wash the dishes.
I want someone else to pay the bills and do the laundry.
All the time!
Is that so much to ask?!

As social creatures, humans have a range of pain-related
behaviors, such as complaining, which acts as a “placebo for getting
satisfied,” Flaherty says. Blogging about stressful experiences might
work similarly.

These sound like simple requests, actually. You remind me of when my daughter what a new baby. After a few weeks, I got brave and went out with her everywhere just to see if anyone would steal my laundry, report my house dust to my mother-in-law, or cook dinner. Just as the outside world went on without me as I stayed home with my baby, so the inside world waited for me when I took some time away! Go out with the girls!!!

Since having had a child, I've really come to appreciate the joy of sitting very very still and staring at the inside of my eyelids.
