Breaking up

Freecycle used to be good to me.  Now, all I seem to get is the hand.  I've gotten some really awesome stuff through Freecycle and I've gotten rid of some serious junk too.

But lately, the word has really gotten around in my community and there are tons of people now on our list-serve.  At a minimum, I see 200+ e-mails per day.  By the time I see something I might want, it's already been taken.

But, what's been catching my attention lately is the stuff that people offer up.

Offer:  Bananas

Offer:  Male Mannequin Torso

Offer: Food that is past it's expiration date

Wanted:  Breast pump

What's funnier is that these items eventually show up as taken or received.  I don't know which is worse, the fact that someone offered expired food or that someone else took it.

Anyway, I think Freecycle may have lost its value for me.  More often than not, there are way too many e-mails flying around so no one actually reads them anymore.  Who wants their inbox flooded with useless e-mails?  So, other members are doing what I do, just deleting them.

It may be time for our group to split (which apparently cannot be initiated by members!).  Or for Freecycle and me to part ways.  What a sad, sad day that will be.

Offer:  Broken heart.

Hey, don't knock old food! I'd take it any day for my composter or to give to my goats and chickens as treats. As long as there's no RED mold on it, it's safe for them to eat - and they LOVE old fruits, veggies, and bread. It's funny, I actually needed a mannequin top to display shirts at one time and couldn't find one to save my life. One man's trash, right???

I hear you. I have been on Freecycle for about a year and have yet to get anything. Every time I see an offer I want, it is gone or PPU. Although, it is handy for getting rid of stuff to people who are in need. I have just given up actually receiving anything.
