Tough Days of Summer

During Bloggy Giveaway, I asked everyone who entered to win to post how they were helping to make the world a better place. There was a myriad of answers; from growing their own gardens, to recycling, to volunteering at local churches and organizations. It was so awesome to hear about so many people doing great things for others. The winners of Bloggy Giveaways, by the way, are announced here.
There's no denying it - it's been a tough summer. People have and are losing their jobs and/or their homes; gas and food are through the roof. Those of us with jobs, are still fighting hard to stay alive.
Yet, despite everything, our families and kids still need to be fed, clothed, and taken to the doctor. It has not been an easy 2008. That is why Motherhood Uncensored has come up with a great idea. Blogging is all about community and sticking together right? As bloggers, we all seem to have a special connection, even though we've never personally met.
Well, this is the moment we've all been waiting for; a chance to help one another. Kristen has asked us to take a pledge for the month of August to read our usual blogs through our feeders.
Kristen writes:
I just went to all the blogs I read and made sure they are on my feed reader. To help out my fellow bloggers, I am taking Kristen's pledge to help "Blog the Recession."So instead of typing "God I'm so sorry" yet again, I've created Blog the Recession Month.
The premise is simple. If you read blogs, then for the month of August, make the "pledge" to click through from your feed reader. No obligation to leave a hilarious comment or send a long stalkerish email (although both, within reason, are always lovely). Just click through to the blog (not on ads unless you are so led) and if you're feeling generous, click around to their older posts.
Just those extra page views can make a big difference for bloggers who could really use the help, or in my case, where page views don't matter so much, a big fat ego boost.
You don't have to have a blog to help. Most e-mail providers have RSS readers; Yahoo and G-mail do for sure. Just go to your "My Yahoo" page for Yahoo or the "Reader" link at the top for G-mail, there you will see a tab for RSS Reader or Reader or Feed Burner option. Add your favorite blogs there and make it a habit to read them from there instead of from their websites.
Perhaps we each can't take in a homeless family and feed and clothe them, or give someone a much needed job. But we certainly can give a bit of time to improve the lives of people who have touched us in some way.

I just joined the Blog the Recession. Such a great idea and fun as well. Another fun perk is finding great new blogs to frequent
